Introducing last year’s winner, Bear 435, Holly. I’m sharing this because I discovered this contest last year, and it gave me so much JOY. A fat bear in September is a GLORIOUS bear because the fatter a bear is this time of year, the greater chances it has of surviving the winter. Katmai National Park in Alaska usually hosts the competition on their Facebook page in a bracket style elimination. However, this years voting will be via a brand new Fat Bear Week Website. The website is up and running and you can even check out the bears that will be included in the fun this year! My personal favorite from last year was, in fact, Holly, who got wonderfully chunky (as you can see) and was the subject of a video on Instagram that I watched dozens of times and showed anyone who would watch.
This year’s fat bear week is coming up quick. It will be happening Wednesday, September 30th through October 6th, 2020. The free voting happens every day of the week from 10am to 8pm Mountain Time. Be sure to check in early otherwise you’ll miss the fun.
Lastly, if you enjoy this, I bet you will enjoy Explore.org’s live cameras. They have ones of Katmai’s bears along with just about every other animal you could imagine.
