Old Books get New Life as Free Ebooks

Have you ever heard of an eBook? If not I’ll give you a quick rundown: same as a physical book, only you read it on a smart device: kindle, tablet, smartphone, desktop, laptop, etc.

Project Gutenberg is an online library of free eBooks. (There are other ones too such as Open Library.) Essentially they take old books whose copyrights have expired and make them accessible to everyone with internet access. All you have to do is search for a book and download the one you want. There are multiple file types for the download so you should be able to get it on just about any device. They have books such as Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, along with lesser known ones that we may not have in print at our library anymore. So go explore, have fun, and happy reading!

P.S. For Campbell County Library Cardholders: If you would also like free access to many new and popular titles in eBook and eAudiobook, check out our Digital Libraries. (We purchase the eBooks so you can check them out, much like our physical collection.) You can use Overdrive/Libby App and/or CloudLibrary. All you need to get started is your CCPL Card number and PIN. Remember you can always call us or come in if you have questions!
