My Reading Journey – Paula

I grew up during the Reading Rainbow and Scholastic Bookfair times where nothing was more special or exciting than reading or hearing a good story. I have memories of competing with my sisters to memorize and recite a Shel Silverstein poem or going to Pronghorn Elementary where we were lucky enough to have a reading treehouse in the library (if you know, you know), or in Jr. High where I took an elective based solely around reading books we enjoyed (thank you Mrs. McNutt). To this day my sisters and I still talk books constantly and will do group reads just so that we can chat about what we’ve read. It’s been a great way to keep us connected and close even as growing up and distance has separated us.

Falling into a good story can be so magical that even just thinking of and sharing my favorite titles gives me a warm, nostalgic feeling in my heart. Reading can help keep you connected with loved ones or build new meaningful friendships; it can open doors to new worlds or help you escape the one you are in. Whatever reading is to you, I hope that some of my favorites can give you joy as well.
