This title by Holocaust survivor, Eddie Jaku, grabbed my attention and interest immediately. One of my favorite books to read when I was younger was Diary of Anne Frank and I tend to gravitate toward Holocaust stories and World War II history.

My first thought of, “The Happiest Man on Earth: The Beautiful Life of an Auschwitz Survivor” was, how in the world could this man find happiness after the torture he endured from Nazi soldiers and treacherous brutally cold escapes from captivity throughout seven long years? From the time I opened the book, I could not put it down. I also listened to the audiobook and what a horrifically vivid but beautiful retelling of Eddie’s story.

Eddie Jaku’s family and life were dramatically changed out of hate and intolerance toward the Jewish race. He was beaten and faced with the most unimaginable horror in Buchenwald, Auschwitz concentration camp. His story shares with us unbelievable resilience, endurance, tolerance, strength, determination, love, kindness, and happiness.

Here are a couple quotes from Eddie Jaku, Happiest Man on Earth.

“Happiness does not fall from the sky; it is in your hands. Happiness comes from inside yourself and from the people you love. And if you are happy and healthy, you are a millionaire.”

“I want the world to be a better place and hope humanity might be restored a little by reading this book. I also want to say to you to never give up hope. It is never too late to be kind, polite, and a loving human being.”
