{"id":880,"date":"2024-05-28T19:31:33","date_gmt":"2024-05-29T01:31:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ccpls.info\/true\/?p=880"},"modified":"2024-05-28T19:31:33","modified_gmt":"2024-05-29T01:31:33","slug":"building-a-non-anxious-life-with-john-delony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ccpls.info\/true\/2024\/05\/28\/building-a-non-anxious-life-with-john-delony\/","title":{"rendered":"Building a Non-Anxious Life with John Delony"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I saw that John Delony had a new book out, I had to get my hands on it.&nbsp; This is the easiest read about anxiety I think I have ever read.&nbsp; John inserts some of his humor and his personal experiences into the pages.&nbsp; If you haven\u2019t heard of John Delony, he has his own podcast called <em>The Dr. John Delony Show <\/em>definitely worth a listen!&nbsp; Among John\u2019s amazing education and experience he spent years working in crisis and emergency response.&nbsp; He has real life experience helping others in some of the worst days of their lives.&nbsp; He gives 6 daily choices that help with anxiety.&nbsp; His introduction on anxiety really hit me as different from some of the others that I have read; starting with how he is identifying anxiety throughout the pages of his book.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cBefore we go any further, I want to make sure we\u2019re using the same language.&nbsp; When I say anxiety, I\u2019m talking about all of it.&nbsp; Yes, I\u2019m referring to clinical anxiety, phobias, and social anxiety.&nbsp; But I\u2019m also talking about debilitating worry and fear and chronic stress and burnout, and how our lives have been flooded with constant, heightened levels of threats and chaos.&nbsp; Anxiety is no longer just a clinical term \u2013 it\u2019s now part of the cultural vernacular.\u201d<\/em> Pg. 4<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why we need to change the way we talk about anxiety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cConsequently, the things we\u2019ve been doing to reduce or resolve our anxiety aren\u2019t working\u2026 \u201cWe\u2019re putting Band-Aids over bullet holes.&nbsp; No wonder things feel like they\u2019re coming apart.\u201d<\/em> Pg. 5<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What practical tips does he recommend?&nbsp; This is just a short take away on these 6 daily choices that I really appreciated!&nbsp; By no means take my word for it, just read it for yourself.&nbsp; I hope you enjoy it just like I did.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cSix daily choices.\u201d <\/em>Pg. 79<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\">\n<li><em>Choose reality:<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cChoosing reality is the practice of taking a true inventory of your life, your work, your relationships, and your values.\u201d <\/em>pg. 90<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cYou have to choose to live in truth, however painful and ugly it might be. Choosing reality is where all healing and change begins.\u201d <\/em>pg. 90<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Choose Connection:<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cCommunication is not connection.&nbsp; Technology allows for communication, not connection.\u201d <\/em>pg. 123<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cTechnology leaves me over-informed and under-experienced.&nbsp; Folks know a lot of stuff about me, and I see a lot of things about them, but we don\u2019t know each other at all.\u201d <\/em>pg. 123<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Choose Freedom:<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Money, time, boundaries, clutter &amp; stuff.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThe conscious and unconscious ways we give away our lives in exchange for the promise of the good life.&nbsp; In other words, where we trade our freedom for illusions.\u201d<\/em> pg. 144<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Choose Mindfulness:<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cBegin interacting with the world in new ways, by new patterns, and with new understanding.&nbsp; This also plays a key role in learning to change the way you talk to yourself and others, transforming your life from one of mindless reaction to being intentionally proactive.\u201d <\/em>pg. 177<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cChoosing to be mindful instead of reactive allows you to examine your body\u2019s response and your thoughts from a 30,000-foot view.
