Meet Kana Sakuragi, a young woman out job hunting. She’s an incredibly hard worker who is motivated to do a good job and has an amazing memory. Unfortunately for Sakuragi, she has interviewed for several companies and has heard nothing but rejection from each one. Bad luck continues to follow the poor girl as her latest interview is crashed by an unwelcome creature known in this world as a kaii. Luck finally sides with Sakuragi as the magical girl sent to exterminate the kaii needs help. Sakuragi steps up to the plate and helps by using the magical device for our magical girl lead, Hitomi Koshigaya. Impressed with this newbie’s ability to work a new magical device that she herself has been having trouble with, she recruits the bystander to her company. There, Sakuragi is offered a position to become the newest magical girl for this small start-up company. The company so far is composed of Shigemoto, the boss and president of Lumiere Magical Girl Co., Kazuo Nikoyama, the magic engineer, and Kaede Midorikawa, who handles requests for magical girls and other clerical duties.
I instantly fell in love with this manga series, Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc. I was intrigued when I read the synopsis of the series as I was expecting something like My Hero Academia except it would be magical girls instead of heroes as a profession. It has the same feel, but instead of focusing on a school atmosphere, it’s centered around a small company. I laughed out loud multiple times while reading it and was excited to see the magic used and, of course, the classic magical girl transformation sequence. Kana Sakuragi is an adorable lead character, Hitomi Koshigaya is a tough girl with great instincts, and the side characters who make up the rest of the company are so outlandish and perfect for this type of manga. Sekka Iwata has created a wonderful story and Yu Aoki’s artwork is so adorable and perfect for this magical girl series. If you are a fan of magical girl series like Sailor Moon, or a series like My Hero Academia where our protagonist lives in a world like ours’ but with magical elements, you’ll enjoy this latest magical girl series. It’s a perfect quirky manga series with unique and fun characters. Book 2 is in!
